Class 442 Feature - The Early Years

Wessex Electric Unit between Waterloo and Vauxhall

In the run up to introduction to service, and whilst driver training was taking place, Network SouthEast's Publicity Department was in action capturing images of their modern 3rd rail stock and producing publicity material. The following three photographs are official publicity photographs generously contributed by the Network SouthEast Archive, courtesy of Alan Cheek www.railimages.co.uk (via Richard Sharp).

Two more Network SouthEast publicity photographs below, taken in the New Forest. The latter of the two was supplied by Tony Hillman and you are recommended to view his excellent website British Railways Publicity. The picture also became part of a limited edition set of five postcards issued to mark the opening of Solent Link electric services on the 9th May 1990. A photograph of the opening event can be found on Page 5. The webmaster is indebted to former members of Network SouthEast's Publicity Department who have contributed freely of their knowledge, material and photographs and by doing so have considerably enhanced this feature.
