Gatwick Express Class 387/2 Enters Service
![]() |
photograph by Colin Price The new trains for Gatwick Express, Class 387/2, entered passenger serice on Tuesday 2nd February 2016. However, not on Gatwick Express workings, but for fellow Govia operation Thameslink. Due to the slower than expected testing, commissioning and introduction to service of Thameslink's new Class 700 units there is a growing shortage of rolling stock, especially with the impending phased release of Thameslink interim stock, Class 387/1, to GWR (initially for the Paddington - Hayes and Harlington service, which replaces the Paddington - Greenford branch service). 387201 was at the country end, with 387117 at the London end (from a south of the Thames perspective!) working: 1W02 05:30 Brighton to Bedford The pair are pictured above approaching Blackfriars on the third working. |
