New Power Car for 5913
![]() |
photographs by "GB" South West Trains' unit 5913 was extremely unlucky when on 5th November 2010 a cement lorry plunged off the overbridge at Oxshott, crushing the roof of the unit's power car and, comparatively fortunately, only injuring passengers and the driver of the lorry. 5913 was working a Guildford (New Line) to Waterloo service at the time. Following assessment the damaged coach 62838 was judged beyond repair and following investigations it was decided to re-build a still existing DTSO coach, originally from prototype Class 210 DEMU, as a replacement. The conversion proved to be involved and extensive. It was not until 26th July 2013 that 5913 was observed back in passenger service. Above replacement power car 67301 (retaining its number from when it was converted to the experimental 3 phase EMU 7001) is viewed at Waterloo on 14th October 2014. Below shows the only readily visible noticeable difference between 67301 and a standard 455 vehicle is that the structure which rests on the air suspension and the lifting point are different. |
