"Gordon" and other Southern Electric stock at the Swanage Beer and Grand Diesel Gala 2008
' "celebrity" 4 Vep unit 3417 "Gordon Pettit" was a guest for the second year running at the 's annual Beer and Grand Diesel Gala. Other stock of Southern Electric heritage, both native to the railway and visitors, also worked over the three days 9th to 11th May.
The webmaster could not resist getting out of date order, but setting the scene in a panoramic view BRCW type 3 D6515 and Electro-Diesel 73107, both
hauling Mk1 coaching stock in "Swanage Green" (which is not quite the same shade as BR "Stock Green"), are about to pass in
Corfe Castle station on Sunday 11th May. photograph by |
However, before we get to the we need first to back-track eight days. On 1st May Bournemouth based driver Brian King was sent up to Wimbledon Park Depot with "thunderbird" EDL 73235 light engine to collect 3417. As he writes "like any good driver I had a decent camera with me" and it is indeed fortunate for us that he did because as work and safety permitted he was able to record the move. | |
