![]() |
London Overground's programme of augmenting all of their Class 378/1 and 378/2 units to five car continues apace. Initial lengthening was done at Bombardier's Derby Ltchurch Lane works, however once the process had been debugged the additioanl cars are now loco hauled from Derby to New Cross Gate Depot, where they are inserted. The work now only takes two days, the first to insert the new car, the second to test the lengthened unit. New intermediate coaches are numbered from 38401 and are marshalled next to driving car numbered 381nn. By the middle of April 2015 all 378/1 units had been lengthened and by early April 378201-09 had been augmented. At the moment only 4 car 378s can operate the Euston - Watford Junction services, but all other electrified London Overground lines have 5 car operations. Above, car 38435 of unit 378135, arriving at Clapham Junction on 21st March 2015. This car is one of only five, reported to be 38401, 38402, 38403, 38435 & 38450, which carry "unwrapped" gift-wrapped vinyls. |
