4mm scale mass-produced ready to run EMUs - Hornby 2Bil

Hornby R3161 SR 2Bil - click for a larger picture

Announced just before Christmas 2012 and released in late February 2013 Hornby's fourth new EMU of recent times was the Southern Railway's 2Bil. The initial production run was for three versions, R3161(X) 2114 in SR Maunsell lined green, R3162(X) 2134 in BR(S) green and R3177 2090 in BR(S) green as in the NRM's collection.

	R3162 is the "standard" BR version, unit 2134.

	The NRM version 2090, R3177, has the thinner buffer shanks of the pre-Reading Line batches, no "1" legends on doors to the first class compartments and black arc chutes.

	The emergence of this very good model was marred by demand for R3161 and R3162 exceeding supply, with dealers receiving only half of what they had ordered and consequential rationing to customers. So Hornby produced a second run with different unit numbers, R3161A SR unit 2041 appearing in September 2013 (not pictured here) and later the BR(S) version, R3162A, unit number 2142 (also not pictured here). In September 2014 three more 2Bil models appeared: R3257 unit number 2019 in BR(S) green, small yellow warning panels and thick buffer shanks (the latter is not how the unit was originally built). R3258 unit number 2086 in BR blue with full yellow ends and whistles. R3259 unit number 2090 - NRM branded version - in BR blue with full yellow ends and two tone horns (not pictured).
