Golden Arrow Productions HA
Golden Arrow Productions of Hastings produced this custom-built ready to run HA. The body is cast resin with whitemetal bogies. One thing that has to be watched for when modelling Southern Electric in OO gauge is the position of the pickup shoes - has the bogie width been modelled to true 4mm scale or narrowed to reflect the compromise of 16.5mm gauge? In this model's case, although it was advertised as only available in OO gauge the bogies are to 4mm scale width as and so the pickup beams run outside the third rail , and the dummy pickup shoes foul conductor rail fixed to OO gauge track.
Lima Class 73 | |
![]() |
Lima's first Class 73 model appeared in
1986 and it is certainly one of their better efforts. However, this lily can be
gilded, as can be seen on our kit-built, super-detailing,
conversions and scratch-built locomotives page. The pickup shoes align perfectly
with a conductor rail fixed to OO gauge track however if the rail is at scale height the
shoes are moulded slightly too low so lifting the loco fractionally and impairing
adhesion. A few moments with a file or knife can cure this! Three dozen
different versions of this loco are known to have been produced, seven of which are
illustrated left roughly in order of appearance of prototype liveries. Incidentally
Lima produced a model of E6005 - a JA - incorrectly with a JB body and incorrectly in
Brunswick green with a grey lower stripe and incorrectly with a loco - not carriage -
emblem. It is hoped to picture this model after the next photographic section. Following their acquisition of Lima, Hornby selected the Class 73 to be among the first tranche of British stock to be re-released under the Hornby brand. |
