8016 was
delivered to Eastleigh during October 2000. The unit was added to SWT stock on 22nd
November 2000 though still awaiting commissioning. It was reported as being at Eastleigh
until the end of March 2001 when it was delivered to Wimbledon. The unit was in service by
May of that year but the following summer it was back at Eastleigh for modifications. 8016
received further modifications at Stewarts Lane in late 2002, returning to Wimbledon
sometime in December.

8007+8016 were reported to be working the 20.50 Waterloo to Woking on 7th April 2005 with 8007. On Friday 28th July, supposed to be the penultimate weekday of 458 operation, this unit and 8024 were on a Reading line diagram finishing at Ascot at 19.19. 8016's last recorded working (with 8024) was after the RVAR deadline on 1st August though it was not one of the pool of eight that has continued running. This unit had been returned to service by 13th December. It is believed 8016 received further modifications during July 2007 to fit door well lights and CCTV. |

8017 appears to have gone from Washwood Heath into store at Kineton during November 2000, but it was observed on test with 8009 out of Wimbledon on January 17th 2001 and both of these units were booked to go to Eastleigh two days later. However another account has the unit being in store at Kineton in March 2001 and delivered to Eastleigh during July 2001. 8017 entered service during January 2002 and went into an unspecified "works" for further attention May/June returning to traffic around August 2002. |
On June 30th 2006, the last day SWT were due to run class 458s, 8017 was one of the six units in service running with 8024 on the WM705/706 (am only) diagram. However, that was not the last day SWT run these units because on 4th July this pair worked the 17.35 and 20.50 services from Waterloo to Reading and the 19.12 and 22.42 return workings, then spending the night in platform 15 at Waterloo. On Friday 14th July 2006 8017+8024 were again out working the 07.24 Reading to Waterloo and this pair again worked the same service on Thursday 20th July. On 14th December 8017 disgraced itself when it failed on a test run from Wimbledon to Hampton Court. Having delayed services following it the test run was terminated at Surbiton. It was out on another test run on 20th December. 8017 had been returned to service by 11th January 2007. |

8018 was moved from Washwood Heath into store at Kineton during November 2000 where it stayed until delivered to Eastleigh by 6th October 2001. The unit was moved to Wimbledon on 7th November entering traffic in early December 2001. On December 8018+8014 failed at Surbiton due to overheating brakes, the latter unit being the culprit. This unit received further attention at Eastleigh during the summer of 2002, emerging from there during September but then receiving further modifications at Stewarts Lane at the end of that year. |
On June 30th 2006, the last day SWT were due to run class 458s, 8018 was one of the six units in service running as a consecutively numbered pair with 8019 on the WM702/701 diagrams. So this pair were due to be the last to run in service with the 22.12 Reading to Waterloo, arriving at Waterloo one minute early and with a blast of the horn. This unit is one of a pool of eight that has been used beyond the RVAR deadline and has worked regularly beyond July. It is now fitted with 40mm passenger information displays. Along with other modified units it was withdrawn from service at the end of September but following modifications has since returned to work. 8018 moved with 8013 to Bournemouth for refreshment on 9th March 2009 and returned to Wimbledon on 27th March. |

8020 was moved from Washwood Heath into store at Kineton during November 2000 and returned to Washwood Heath around April 2001 until delivered to Eastleigh during July. In July 2002 8020 was reported as not being in regular use, however it was recorded as arriving at Wimbledon on April 10th 2002. It finally entered service on 23rd July 2002. During June 2006 this unit was reported as not having worked in passenger service since February, however it came out to play at the end of the month, working the 22.12 Reading to Waterloo service on 29th June. 8020 made further appearances throughout July. On Friday 28th July, supposed to be the penultimate weekday of SWT 458 operation, this unit plus 8029 worked a full day Reading line diagram ending at Waterloo at 23.34. 8020 has had new DDA compliant displays fitted so is now in service until further notice. |
