25th February 2009: Note the two surprises in the above, with 2418 and 2423, not part of the original 17 units intended for =$ext_southernrailway;?>, being hauled to Wolverton on 25th February and 18th February respectively. These two units only received a mechanical (C4) overhaul there. Given the slower than intended delivery and commssioning of refurbished units, these two units will be used in unbranded =$ext_southwesttrains;?> livery to maintain the number of serviceable units whilst the two unrefurbished units that have been regularly used in service, 2405 and 2413, undergo refurbishment at Wolverton. What will happen to 2418 and 2423 when =$ext_southernrailway;?> have all 17 units available is currently a matter of speculation. It is believed, pro-tem, the pair of unrefurbished units will be used whenever possible on the Eastbourne - London Bridge peak workings as their is concern about Gatwick Express branded units being used on a service which does not stop at Gatwick Airport. So there is a while yet to experience travelling in a "snug" and on which services this is most likely to be possible! |
