The End Of An Era Railtour - 15th April 1995

To mark the withdrawal of the last EPB units on the Southern, the Southern Electric Group ran the End Of An Era railtour on 15th April 1995, taking EPB units 5001 and 5176 on a tour of south London and out into Kent. Unit 5001 had been restored into BR Green with half yellow panels on each cab end and 5176 had been restored into BR corporate blue and grey.

After withdrawal, unit 5176 was purchased for preservation. 3 vehicles are based at the Northamptonshire Ironstone Trust and the 4th is at the Electric Railway Museum in Coventry. Unit 5001 was placed in store at MoD Kineton for several years in the hope that it would be preserved, but it was eventually scrapped in 2004.
