The First & Final 501 - 11th May 1985
In 1985, the Southern Electric Group and LCGB took a pair of class 501 units on a rare trip away from their home territory of the North London Line, onto the Southern region.
The railtour began with a trip over the entire North London Line, including North Woolwich, Croxley Green, Euston, Broad Street and Richmond. From Richmond, the tour ran via Clapham Junction to Bromley North via Woolwich Arsenal and Slade Green, and up to Holborn Viaduct.
From there, the tour ran down to Horsham via Sutton and back to Richmond via Three Bridges and East Croydon, and then back to Broad Street where the railtour began.
