What a difference seven weeks makes

The loss of leaves on the deciduous trees and the lack of the sun is not the only difference between these two photographs taken by Colin Price about seven weeks apart. The station was closed for 15 days over the Christmas period to permit a significant development to increase capacity. A third 12 car length platform was built in place of the through Up North Kent Line, existing platforms were lengthened to 12 cars and a new footbridge with lifts to permit step free access was built. The upgrade cost £19 million. The platforms are now controversially numbered 0, 1 and 2. The photograph above was taken on 14th November 2013, the photograph below on 7th January 2014. |
