The major demolition took place as planned and finished on time. Lester Hayes visited again on the 3rd January 2012 and took these photographs from platforms 3/4. |

A controversial opinion, perhaps, but the platforms at East Croydon now look less imposing? But at least an eyesore has been removed! |
Update late March 2012 from Lester Hayes - Preliminary work continues most weeks during the night starting at 20:45. The island platform being worked on being closed with subsequent alterations to train services. Information regarding these alterations is unfortunately contradictory with the information on both the Southern and National Rail Enquiries web sites differing from the service that is actually running. So far work platforms have been constructed above the ramps down to the subway and the platform canopies are being dismantled in the area affected. Piling is taking place to form the foundation for the new bridge. |
Platforms 1 & 2 taken from platform 4. The "Do Not Wait in the Hatched Area" instruction is largely ignored by passengers! Picture taken on 23rd March 2012. | ![]() |
The work site on Platforms 5 & 6. This photograph was taken blind through a wire mesh but you can see the raised platform above the subway ramp. | ![]() |
Platforms 3 & 4 from platform 5. Note the piling equipment. This pictures and the one above were taken on 30th March 2012. |
