There's No Business Like Snow Business!

The platforms being swept clear of snow at Edenbridge own on Tuesday 3rd February 2009

Taking in the borders of Surrey, Kent and Sussex - no trains ran on the Uckfield branch for two days even though the service is run by Diesel units. Availability of staff is believed to have been the problem - they could not get to their reporting points to sign on. Here snow is being swept from the platforms at Edenbridge Town on Tuesday 3rd, not that there are any passengers to slip or get in the way!

Snowman on the platform at Waterloo East

Southeastern were able to run trains to and from London on the 3rd. By which time Waterloo East had gained a new platform despatcher!

375623 with 375808 approach Waterloo East with the 11:30 Hastings to Charing Cross service on 3rd February 2009

Proof of the above! 375623 with 375808 approach Waterloo East with the 11:30 Hastings to Charing Cross service. Note the coupler has been taped over because these days they perform more than a mechanical joint. During the day the basic service on the mainline was half hourly Charing Cross - Ashford and Charing Cross - Hastings, with some additional Charing Cross - Ramsgate (3)/Tunbridge Wells (2) workings in the peak to supplement (16:30, 17:00, 17:30, 18:00 & 18.30 from Charing Cross).

The Sussex East Coastway line did not suffer so badly and enjoyed a service both days. Here an 8 car Class 377 formation is traversing Pevensey Marsh on Tuesday 3rd.
