Taking in the borders of Surrey, Kent and Sussex - no trains ran on the Uckfield branch for two days even though the service is run by Diesel units. Availability of staff is believed to have been the problem - they could not get to their reporting points to sign on. Proof of the above! 375623 with 375808 approach Waterloo East with the 11:30 Hastings to Charing Cross service. Note the coupler has been taped over because these days they perform more than a mechanical joint. During the day the basic service on the mainline was half hourly Charing Cross - Ashford and Charing Cross - Hastings, with some additional Charing Cross - Ramsgate (3)/Tunbridge Wells (2) workings in the peak to supplement (16:30, 17:00, 17:30, 18:00 & 18.30 from Charing Cross). photograph by Colin Price |
