South West Trains maintaining services for commuters. 5863 approaches the mainline at New Malden from Norbiton. The Webmaster can recall a 4Sub unit stalling whilst climbing this gradient during a spell of snowy weather in the late 1970s. The train had to set/roll back before it could make a second successful attempt at storming up the slope. photograph by Tony Rispoli |
